We are happy to share with you all that-
BREAST CANCER awareness & screening program was organized at Mani Super Speciality Hospital and research institute in association with Sakra world Hospital and RC of Hassan midtown on 23rd July 2019.
This is to create awareness among the public as breast cancer is on raise in India that too in younger population.
The breast is a very superficial organ, which means that it is placed just below the skin and can be easily felt, unlike organs like uterus, pancreas, lungs etc. Hence problems related to breast can also be easily identified. Despite this, it is very sad that majority of women (more than 60%) in our country reach the doctor for the first time when the lump is very big in
size and the disease is advanced and more difficult to treat. It contributes to 32% of women related cancers in india. 1 in 29 women have a life time risk of developing breast cancer in the country. The magnitude of the disease is very high, yet it’s a treatable condition, if it is detected early and treated appropriately.
Its very important for women to be aware of the signs &symptoms of breast cancer.
• A lump or swelling in the breast or under arm region(mayor may not be associated with pain)
• Skin changes in the breast-dimpling, puckering or shows signs of redness.
• Nipple changes-If they become distorted, inverted or ulceration over the nipple or discharge from the nipple .
RECOMMENDATION:
• Women above 20yrs undertake a Breast Self Examination(BSE)on5-7day of menstrual cycle.
• After40yrs,Mammogram annually till75yrs(ACOG guidelines)
• after75yrs,on doctors advice or if it’s indicated clinically
• If family history is positive, start mammogram from 35yrs onwards
Tips to reduce the risk of breast cancer
• Maintain healthy lifestyle
• Eat lots of fruits and vegetables
• Exercise regularly
• Breast feed your baby for atleast one year
• Cut down on alcohol and smoking
• Eat natural food and avoid food with preservatives
Women’s health is of utmost
importance. Most often while talking care of their families and other needs, they tend to put their own needs at the bay. Women must take responsibility for their health & take care of themselves.
NOTE: Kindly make use of this free breast cancer screening camp and BMD(bone mineral density)camp on 4th Tuesday of every month at Mani Super Speciality Hospital and research institute, Hassan.
